Paleo Diet – Day 14 – 28-Feb-2019

It’s been two weeks now. I will be checking my weight again tomorrow. Paleo has been good to me so far and I have been good to Paleo so far.

Day 14 was rather good.

Morning 30 ml coconut oil on empty stomach – Done

Breakfast – I had a different combination today. Had spinach sautéed in ghee and cheese slices. They were rather good.

Lunch – I had bitter gourd and tomato salad. I really started to like bitter gourd now.

Snack – Had two guavas.

Dinner – It was a real tasty affair. I had dry fish (karuvadu). I am allowed to have it once a week and suddenly yesterday got a craving. Dry fish semi gravy with tomato, onion and garlic. It was real real yummy.

Paleo Diet - Day 13 - 27-Feb-2019

As a mom of two toddlers, I find it very hard to maintain a strict routine to write and I usually write on the go. And I post at all times of the day irregularly. It may create confusion to the reader whether I am posting it for the day before or for the current day. My friend Snabak suggested me to add the dates to my blogs so that it will be consistent. So, adding the dates too henceforth.

Day 13 of Paleo went on smooth.

For the very first time in 13 days history I forgot to drink coconut oil. My son was cranky and adamant in taking a leave to his school and I was equally stern to send him. All these craziness in the morning made me forget the coconut oil. By noon I suddenly remembered that I forgot this. Will be very careful in the upcoming days.

Breakfast – Today made paneer idlis. 200 gms paneer + half coconut + salt – Blended to a batter and steamed on idli paltes. It came out as the world’s softest idli and tasted good. I had them with tomato onion thokku.

Lunch – I had spinach. It was the most yucky yucky spinach type which cannot be had without dal, I felt. But managed to have half a bowl.

Snack – I had 2 slices of cheese and 2 guavas.

Dinner – A Handful of almonds.

Had 3 litres of water and no lemon juice. Will have them properly tomorrow.

Day 13 done. 87 Days to go!!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 12

It feels great when the countdown has reached 80’s from the 90’s. Already I have started making plans on the list of dishes to have on my 100th day. I miss masala coated fried groundnuts very badly.

Morning 30 ml Coconut oil on empty stomach – Done

Breakfast – I had grilled paneer. Usually I cut paneer to pieces , add salt and chilly and grill it in the sandwich maker. Yesterday I added lemon juice to it, God knows why. It did not come out well from the griller. No matter how long I grilled, it was soggy at the end.  But I was so hungry and hogged it all up.

Lunch – I had bottle gourd. I don’t like it usually but yesterday it was ok ok.

Snack – I had two guavas. I did not have cheese yesterday. The guavas I picked were too big and filling.

Dinner – I had mutton chukka. My most favorite.

I was doing something or the other and completely forgot to drink water.

Drank only 2 litres and one litre of lemon juice. Today have to regularize it.

Day 12 done. 88 Days to go !!!!!!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 11

I term Day 11 as the second phase in Paleo. To keep me in comfort, I have split the 100 days into ten phases and used to remind myself that its just like my pregnancy days. I cannot come out of it at my will. I have to go through it whatever means. Glad that I have completed the Phase 1 without much hurdles or wanting to give it up.

Day 11 went on well.

Morning 30 ml coconut oil on empty stomach – Done

Breakfast – I woke up very late as kids were up the whole night and I had 3 cheese slices.

Lunch – I had spinach stir fry in ghee.

Snack – This is a very unusual taste I have. I don’t know how many of you may actually like it. I fry garlic in ghee and have it just like that. I am so fond of garlic that I don’t mind its smell.

Dinner – I tried a different recipe today. Almond dosa. I made almond flour in the mixer jar and added lots of water to it to make it to the consistency of wheat dosa batter. It was beautiful to see on the dosa tava but actually I ruined it while putting it on the other side to cook. But the taste was very good and I had it with tomato onion thokku.

Had 2 litres of water and one litre of lemon water.

Day 11 done. 89 Days to go !!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 10

It’s been 10 days today. I am starting to really like this Paleo Diet. The pics I had clicked yesterday at my son’s school got many positive comments. (For my picture, of course). I am really so motivated by the comments and so eager to finish the remaining 90 days.

Morning 30 ml coconut oil on empty stomach – Done

Breakfast – Had 3 slices of cheese and 1 guava

Lunch – Had an omlette of 3 eggs

Snack – Again 2 slices of cheese

Dinner – Dinner was a pleasant surprise. I had ordered grill chicken through swiggy and they called me back to inform that they have run out of grilled chicken and they can deliver tandoori chicken In place. I asked them to call me back in a couple of minutes and I pinged Sundara Pandian anna to check if its allowed for me and waited for the reply fingers crossed. He pinged me back saying, its allowed once in a while and its better if its just this once. I literally jumped and confirmed the restaurant to deliver me the same.

Had half tandoori chicken with mint chutney. It was a happy ending for the tenth day.

I was supposed to walk 6000 steps per week. I took the kids to the park by walk to and fro. I guess that’s done for this week then. Have to properly plan and go for a walk from next week.

Had 3 litres of water and one litre of lemon water.

Day 10 Done. 90 Days to go !!!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 9

Day 9 of Paleo Diet was hectic indeed. My son is in LKG and its his annual day. Last minute purchases were pending and I couldn’t focus much today.

Morning – Just had 2 guavas and 3 slices of cheese

Afternoon – Had an omlette made of 4 eggs. I started to detest eggs a little. To begin with, I am not a big fan of eggs because of its smell and now its going little too much. So had pudhina chutney as accompaniment. It was a great combo. The smell and the taste of pudhina masked the smell of the eggs.

Dinner – Was on full spirit involved at the School ceremony. It was 10 when we got back. I had packed almonds and was munching on them at the hall and I called it dinner.

Not much of a snack concept today.

Had 3 litres of Water and 1 litre of lemon juice. I am allowed grill chicken. So planning to order and have it tomorrow. It’s like sudden craving. Hope to do justice to it tomorrow.

Day 9 Done. 91 Days to go!!!!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 8

After a great achievement of losing one 1 kg , I was really looking forward to start the diet today.
There is not much of a change or an innovation today.

Morning 30 ml of Coconut oil on empty stomach – Completed

Breakfast – Almonds. Not roasted but plain. I had two spoons of ghee after that.

Lunch – Again had chow chow but piped down the spices today and it was great. Too lazy to cook the spinach and I didn’t have today.

Snack – Had one slice of Cheese and one guava

Dinner – Had chicken. But cheated here a little. I was supposed to have chicken with the skin but had without it. I bought the chicken skin out because people like it that way at home. I did not want to wait and get chicken with skin for myself alone.

Chicken + Tomato + Onions + Garlic + Ginger + aromatic spices a little = Chicken gravy.

It tasted good but I found I could not have it just like that. I needed rice or chapathi or something like that to have non veg. So could not have so much of it and felt pukish.

Had 2 litres of water and one litre of salted lemon juice.

Day 8 done. 92 days to go !!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 7

Yipeeeeeeeeeeeee. I lost 1 kg.

It’s a real motivation for me to continue this Paleo diet. And I have started to fit into, or rather say enter into some of my old dresses. I had a full trial yesterday of my favourite clothes that I was no longer able to flaunt off. Maybe by the time this diet is over, I may get a chance for it.

Morning 30 ml coconut oil on an empty stomach – Completed

Breakfast – Today’s breakfast was a spread, thanks to kitty aunty. She gave me the recipe for Paneer idly. Take 200 gms of Paneer. Shred it. Add half a coconut (grated) to it and blend it to dosa batter consistency. Add salt. Grease idly plates and pour in the batter. Thus yummy idlies done. I had coconut chutney for accompaniment. It was real yummy and being an idly lover, I was so into the seventh heaven.

Lunch – Today had boiled and sauted chow chow and ghee stir fried spinach. Both turned great but chow chow was bit spicy. Made a note to pipe down for tomorrow’s recipe.

Snack – Had 4 slices of cheese and did not have guava today.

Dinner – An omlette of 3 eggs.

Had 3 litres of water and one litre of salted lemon juice.

Day 7 Done. 93 Days to go !!!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 6

Paleo Diet has started working.

I really started to feel light and energetic but the numbers still say the same weight. Lets check after a week.

I have not read the Paleo diet properly it seems. Beans are also not allowed but I had them yesterday.

Have researched thoroughly and have made a chart of what to eat and what not to eat extensively.

Today was again a bit of a travel day with errands to run and something official too. So not much of experimental diet but the same monotonous one.

Cocount oil on an empty stomach, the first thing in the morning – Completed

Breakfast – Again almonds. This is actually easier and very satisfying too.

Lunch – Cabbage stir fry

Dinner – Grilled Paneer

Snack – 3 Guavas and 2 cheese slices

Had 2.5 litres of water only and 2 glasses of lemon juice and one glass of buttermilk.

I have searched for different recipes and have bought lots of veggies today. Will start experimenting from tom. Tomorrow’s menu – Paneer idli, Spinach sautee and grilled chicken.

Day 6 done. 94 Days to go !!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 5

Day 5 of Paleo saw many new ideas. Started off the day with 30 ml coconut oil and when I was about to drink water after that, I thought of trying a new idea Kitty aunty sent me. It was an easy reminder to drink water.

I had wound 4 rubber bands at the bottom of a 1 litre water bottle and when I fill it once, I will remove it and wind it at the top of the bottle. Each time I fill the bottle, I will move the rubber band accordingly. I made a point to move all the rubber bands to the top of the bottle before hitting the bed. It worked well. I had the stipulated 4 litres today properly.

Breakfast – Ghee roasted handful of almonds

Lunch – I had ½ a kilo of beans. I boiled it in the microwave and sauted with a little coconut oil and added salt, chilly powder and finally grated coconuts. It was yummy to begin with but got fed up just a few mouths left over and I called it quits.

Dinner – I had an omlette made of 4 eggs with tomato chutney as accompaniment. I never knew I am allowed tomato chutney , coconut chutney, mint chutney and things like that. It was a happy moment for me indeed.

Drank 4 litres of water and 2 glasses of lemon juice.

Day 5 Done. 95 Days to go !!!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 4

Day 4 of Paleo had a great start. On an empty stomach as usual had coconut oil and I am used to it so well that burps are no longer oily. But I feel a good difference in my skin to begin with. Lets see in the coming days.

Breakfast – Had 250 gms of Mutton pepper fry. Mutton used to be my favorite food till I found out its more fattening than other meat. Then changed the frequency of having. Now having 250 gms of mutton all by myself without guilt of calories is just wonderful.

Boiled the mutton and sautéed with onions, garlic and lots of pepper and salt. It was really yummy yummy.

I was so immersed in the taste of the mutton that I completely forgot to have any lunch. Also I had lots to do yesterday and a couple of official calls to attend to.

Lunch – More of my prescribed snacks. 2 unripe guavas and 2 slice cheese

Snack – Again had 2 slice of cheese.

Dinner – I thought of having it heavy and made a huge omlette of 4 eggs and called a day.

Had 3 litres of water and 2 glasses of lemon water. Hoping to have more of these two tomorrow.

Day 4 Done. 96 Days to go !!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 3

Day 3 of Paleo was ok ok today. Started off with coconut oil as usual.

Then started on a hurry burry journey to a baby shower function of my co-sister. I was literally out of my wits coordinating the kids and elders to reach the venue on time. So just grabbed almonds and boiled peas and started the journey.

Breakfast – Again again almonds , but raw ones not roasted as I didn’t have time.

Lunch – At the party I was so warmly taken to the dining hall for lunch and I couldn’t refuse. I sat in between my kids on a single plate. I started feeding them and did not get the extra serving. So everyone actually thought I too had my fill and didn’t question me which was kind of a great relief.
I had the boiled peas on the way back.

Snack – I had two unripe guavas with salt and chilly and 4 slices of cheese.

Dinner – It was again grilled paneer as I had bought an extra packet the other day.

It was quite monotonous. So planning to have mutton tomorrow morning. Actually I am allowed to have 250 gms of meat for breakfast.

A great shock. I am not allowed to have carrots, it seems which I missed out completely and had for lunch yesterday. Made a note now and will not have in future.

I had 3 litres of water out of the 4 prescribed and one glass of salted lemon juice. It was a great energy booster and loved it to the core after the drive in the hot sun.

Finally Day 3 done. 97 days to go !!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 2

Hi All,

Day 2 of Paleo Diet went on successfully. Morning as usual started off the day with the yucky yucky coconut oil which seemed less yucky yesterday. Maybe I am getting used to it. By the end of 100 days I guess I will start to drink coconut oil like a cool drink. I should hopefully remember not to drink any while oiling my hair though.

Breakfast was again roasted almonds.

Lunch was good with microwaved carrots and spinach.

Dinner was a real treat. I had grilled paneer. I marinated salt and pepper on a block of paneer and was having a thought to tawa fry it when I suddenly had the idea to grill it. I used the sandwich griller and ate right out of it. It was yummy and even my kids loved it. One more recipe added to their snack list.

Had unripe guava and a couple of cheese slices as snack which brought some energy after the frugal lunch.

Again forgot to drink lemon water. I had to run on a couple of errands and forgot to drink the stipulated water too. I will be strict on those today.

To be frank, I was badly tempted to have a sip of coke when hubby bought one but killed it cruelly. (I actually had a big sniff after opening the bottle which was enough for the senses to cool.)

Today travelling down for a baby shower function. God help me to distract me from the feast.
Day 2 done. 98 Days to go. !!!!!!!

Paleo Diet - Day 1

I have successfully started off with my Paleo Diet yesterday. As per my calculation, the 100 day challenge gets over by May 25, 2019. It was a good start yesterday. But had to remind myself quite often throughout that I should not eat anything else. That was bit tiring and I had to cancel a trip to hubby’s friend’s wedding to ward off all temptation.

Morning I started off with drinking 30 ml of coconut oil on an empty stomach which was really really yucky. The whole day the taste lingered but there is a silver lining. I read on the net that it will help in burning the fat and keeps skin smooth. So not much complaints.

Then the breakfast. I had a handful of almonds roasted in ghee. Actually I burnt it a bit more than I should have done. So it tasted completely bitter and the already gagging coconut oil taste made me so pukish but a litre of water did the magic. It quite masked the taste and helped retain my churning contents.

Afternoon was quite ok. I had spinach and boiled, tawa tossed cauliflower with salt and pepper.

I had cooked spinach with onions, garlic and lots of pepper and blended at the end to drinking consistency. I forgot to click the pic as I was busy hogging.

Evening snack was two unripe guava sprinkled with a bit of salt.

Then dinner was an omlette with 3 eggs.

I had 4 litres of water throughout the day or atleast that’s what I thought. I have to keep a measure from today. I was advised to take lemon water with a pinch of salt which I completely forgot yesterday. Should start that too today.

Suddenly during the day I got a craving for buttermilk and I called and confirmed whether I can have that and had a glass of buttermilk.

Successfully completed 1 day. 99 Days to go !!!!!!!

A Big Fat Story

It all started a couple of years back. I was no longer able to flaunt short sleeve dresses. My arms had gone huge and I was wearing all long sleeved clothes to tuck it in and appear ‘not guilty’. Also people at home had my back. Its only your hands that have become big. You are not that fat. I was happily acknowledging all that till I felt it was time to do something about it.

I joined a gym and I really had a great time working out. The only problem was the after effects. Once back from gym, I am ravenously hungry and the only thing that I could think of is the snacks and tit bits fully fried in oil. It was a craving worse than that I had in pregnancy and as usual I gave in. Obviously I had put on weight. And for certain issues, I stopped going to the gym at all. But the action plan was always nagging at the back of my mind.

I tried dieting on my own till my hubby made a habit of ordering sumptuous dishes from Swiggy and tempting me. I was about to call it quits when my friend Maya suggested me this Paleo Diet. She had tried and got wondrous results. She suggested to get guidance from her brother, Sundara Pandian who was equally made wonderful by this Paleo Diet.

Thus my journey started off. I called him who advised me to get a blood test done and analyse all my vitals. I got it done and the final result now says I lack only Vitamin D and a diet is given to me in accordance. It’s a customized plan for 100 days and I am promised visible results from 10 days if I don’t cheat.

That’s the story short and sweet. I am trying to lose weight once again with a new method this time. Will Keep blogging regularly with my daily menu and the most possibly and probably a hilarious journey which should ultimately help me to shed my excess weight.
